In a recent development, 40-year-old Steven Miles from Zephyrhills, Florida, has been handed a two-year prison sentence for his involvement in the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. The event, which shook the nation, saw a mob disrupt a crucial congressional session meant to confirm the 2020 Presidential election results.
Miles, who has ties to the Proud Boys group and works as a gay “adult film actor,” traveled to Washington, D.C., to protest the election outcome. Disturbingly, he and his associates initiated the chaos well before the planned rally speeches, heading to the Capitol and stirring the crowd into a frenzy with chants that challenged the legitimacy of the electoral process.
Dressed for conflict, Miles breached security barriers and aggressively confronted the police officers guarding the Capitol. His violent actions included shoving and attempting to punch an officer in an effort to break through the police lines. The situation escalated as Miles and others managed to force their way into the building, with Miles playing a key role in smashing a window to create an entry point for the rioters.
The breach led to a significant number of rioters overwhelming the Capitol, causing chaos inside the premises. Miles’s intrusion was short-lived, however, as he was directed out by the police within minutes of entering.
The arrest of Miles took place in April 2022, culminating in his recent sentencing by U.S. District Judge Jia M. Cobb to prison, followed by a year of supervised release, and a restitution payment of $2,000.
This case is part of a broader investigation led by the Department of Justice, involving over 1,300 individuals charged with related offenses across the U.S. The extensive investigation continues, highlighting the severe repercussions of the Capitol riot and the ongoing efforts to hold those responsible accountable.
