Rob Jetten and Nico Keenan Are Expecting Their First Child

Rob Jetten and his fiancé, Nicolás “Nico” Keenan, are preparing for a new chapter together: parenthood.

The Dutch prime minister and Argentine field hockey player announced on October 19 that they are expecting their first child in 2027.

In a joint Instagram announcement, shared in Dutch, Spanish and English, they posted photographs featuring an ultrasound scan and introduced their surrogate, Lisa.

“Someone very special is on the way. See you in 2027, little one,” the English caption reads.

The photographs capture the couple smiling together, with another showing them alongside Lisa, who holds the ultrasound picture.

Gratitude for the People Helping Them Become Parents

The couple placed their thanks at the heart of the announcement.

“There are no words big enough to thank our eggdonor, our surrogate mum Lisa, and both their families. None of this would be possible without you,” they wrote in the English caption.

The carousel also includes a message from Lisa, expressing how happy she and her family are to help make Rob and Nico’s dream come true.

It is a family announcement that makes space for the people helping that family take shape.

A Future They Once Found Difficult to Imagine

The news carries particular resonance because both men have previously discussed their hopes for children — and the fears they once connected with their sexuality.

In his Attitude cover interview earlier this year, Jetten reflected on growing up gay and struggling to imagine finding a man with whom he could share marriage and parenthood.

By the time of that interview, he was happily engaged and speaking about the couple’s wish to start a family.

Keenan has described a similar concern from his own perspective.

Speaking to L’HOMO, in an interview reported by RTL Boulevard, he said discovering his bisexuality had brought a fear that he would not be able to have children.

He also spoke about a longstanding desire to become a father.

From Public Life to Family Life

Jetten became the Netherlands’ first gay prime minister in February 2026, while Keenan has represented Argentina in international field hockey.

The couple announced their engagement in November 2024, and their latest news adds another milestone to the life they are building together.

For LGBTQ readers who grew up believing that love and parenthood might be incompatible, there is something quietly powerful about seeing these photographs.

A future once difficult to picture now has an ultrasound image.

Congratulations to Rob and Nico as they look ahead to welcoming their little one.
