Fans of Matt Terry have a big reason to cheer, as the star took a brave step and announced that he is gay. Bringing forth his untold story to Gay Times, the X Factor winner said he is now “taking back control” after finally revealing his sexuality.

Born in Bromley, Matt Terry shot to fame in 2016 when he won the X Factor’s 13th series. Following his public affirmation, Matt recalls his past relationship and opens up about the pressure he experienced during his X Factor tenure. According to him, he was forced to keep his relationship with a man a secret, a decision he solemnly regrets.

The 30-year-old singer’s hit debut single, ‘When Christmas Comes Around’, peaked at number three in 2016. Confiding in the Gay Times, Terry revealed how he had to ask his then-boyfriend to keep their bond hidden from public scrutiny.

Expressing remorse over his past actions, Terry directed an apology to his first love through his new track, ‘His Car’, a song he admits was challenging for him to record due to the profoundly personal narrative it brings to the fore.

As an explicit advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community, Matt is now expressing a louder voice than ever. During his X Factor journey, he had to deny a romantic relationship with co-star Freddy Parker.
