Alan Cumming & Hubby Bid Farewell to Trump’s America

Scottish superstar and Broadway legend Alan Cumming is packing his bags—and his fabulous flair—and heading back to his beloved homeland.

After enchanting the U.S. for over two decades with his scene-stealing roles on stage and screen (Cabaret on Broadway, The Good Wife, and now the U.S. version of The Traitors), Alan says the call of the Highlands is simply too strong to ignore.

And honestly, who among us can resist the lure of moody castles and lush greenery?

In a recent chat with Kaye Adams on her How to be 60 podcast, Alan spilled the tea on why Scotland is tugging at his heart.

While he still adores New York (and truly, who doesn’t love a Manhattan skyline?), he’s realized that his personal values fit better back across the pond.

According to Alan, part of the draw is the UK’s emphasis on kindness, compassion, and a good old-fashioned safety net.

He’s made it clear the political climate in America just doesn’t jive with him anymore, and he’d rather spend his golden years surrounded by friends and neighbors who share his worldview.

But don’t worry—you won’t be missing him entirely. Alan’s sworn to keep a foot on both continents, especially since hubby Grant Shaffer is American.

The pair, who wed in 2012, are planning to split their time between the Big Apple and their cozy nook in the Scottish Highlands.

Although, judging from the sweet way Alan talks about breezy moors and bonnie landscapes, we suspect he might be leaning into that Highland fling a bit more than the Yankee hustle.

Of course, our mischievous Scotsman isn’t the only celeb who’s contemplating a permanent exit from the land of liberty.

Talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi reportedly high-tailed it to rural England.

And let’s not forget that rumor mill swirling around America Ferrera—though she’s put it plainly that certain political realities have her yearning for different shores as well.

If you think Alan is about to take a well-deserved nap in a cozy castle… well, think again.

He was named the artistic director of Pitlochry Festival Theatre last year, so we’re certain a hearty helping of drama—and maybe the occasional show tune—awaits him in the Highlands.

He’s even hinted that he’ll keep filming in the UK, so keep your eyes peeled for new roles that let him roll those R’s in all his Scottish glory.

For now, we’re simply raising a glass of single malt to toast Alan Cumming’s future.

Whether he’s hosting reality TV in Manhattan or directing theatre in Pitlochry, he’s sure to keep us entertained with that signature wit, daring style, and unstoppable charm.

Slàinte, Alan—here’s hoping the Highlands treat you like the national treasure you are!
