Alfie Watts was introducing himself to his Instagram followers: his love of travel, his football loyalties and the everyday habits that make him who he is. Among those details, he shared something he had never said online before. He is bisexual.

The Race Across the World winner posted the personal carousel on October 6, acknowledging that putting it into the world felt frightening. As Queerty reported, the announcement appeared over a photograph of him sitting on a colourful lookout above a sweeping landscape.

It was one part of a wider introduction. Other slides covered Tottenham Hotspur, childhood judo and his dream of presenting his own travel show. He also confessed to eating straight from the cooking pan to save on washing up.
That mixture gives the post an appealing ordinariness. Bisexuality sits beside the interests, ambitions and small quirks that already make up a person’s life.

Alfie became familiar to BBC viewers when he won the fourth series of Race Across the World with schoolfriend Owen Wood in 2024. He has since become a travel creator and a presenter on the programme’s companion podcast, The Detour.
But sharing travel adventures and sharing a private part of yourself can require different kinds of confidence.
In an October 8 update, covered by Attitude, Alfie said he had received no hurtful words and thanked people for the supportive reaction.
He also described trying to suppress his sexuality, hoping that distraction could change how he felt. He said growing up around football culture had not helped him come to terms with it.
There is more he may eventually choose to explain, but Alfie made clear that he will tell his fuller story in his own time.

For anyone who recognizes the habit of keeping busy rather than facing a difficult conversation, his openness may resonate. The warmth he describes receiving is especially welcome.
Alfie has given his followers another way to know him. He gets to decide what comes next.
