Netflix’s Minerva Academy gives its cadet a bisexual awakening.
Diego Giordano starts the Italian teen drama dating Rachele.
Then he falls for Camilla, a new recruit at the military school.
And then things become even more complicated.
Before he disappears, Diego kisses Francesco at a party.
He has never been attracted to a boy before.
Later, Diego tells his sister that things felt different with Francesco — that he felt freer and happier with him.
What makes the storyline work is what Minerva Academy does not do.
It does not pretend Diego’s feelings for girls were fake. And it does not rush him into choosing a label.
The series leaves room for him to be bisexual, pansexual or simply still figuring himself out.
That uncertainty feels honest.
Especially in a story set inside a military academy built around discipline, rank and conformity — with Diego’s own father in charge.
The show’s queer storyline is not treated as a shock twist or a punishment. It is simply one part of a teenager’s increasingly complicated life.
And yes, viewers have also noticed Simone Secce, the actor who plays Diego.
But the more interesting detail is that the character is allowed to take his time.
