New ‘Overcompensating’ Trailer Teases Some Steamy Gay Drama

Benito Skinner, known for his viral persona Benny Drama, is bringing his unique brand of comedy to the small screen with the upcoming series Overcompensating.

Set to premiere on May 15, 2025, the show will be available exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Overcompensating is a semi-autobiographical, college-set ensemble comedy that follows Benny (played by Skinner), a closeted former high school football player and homecoming king.

As he embarks on his freshman year, Benny forms a fast friendship with Carmen (Wally Baram), a high school outsider determined to fit in at any cost.

With guidance from Benny’s older sister Grace (Mary Beth Barone) and her campus-legend boyfriend Peter (Adam DiMarco), the duo navigates the chaotic world of college life, including awkward hookups, flavored vodka, and fake IDs.

The series explores the lengths to which we all overcompensate while on the path to finding out who we really are.

The show boasts an impressive cast, including Rish Shah as Miles, Connie Britton and Kyle MacLachlan as Benny’s parents, and Kaia Gerber in a recurring role.

Additionally, pop star Charli XCX serves as the executive music producer and makes a guest appearance as herself, contributing original music to the series.

Produced by A24 and Amazon MGM Studios, Overcompensating is created, written, and executive produced by Skinner.

The series also features executive producers Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, and Ali Goodwin through their production company Strong Baby, with Scott King serving as showrunner.

In a recent interview, Skinner shared insights into the inspiration behind the show, stating, “I really wanted queer people to see their experience and the complicatedness of that experience… I feel like the villain of the show in a lot of ways is this addiction to masculinity. I think that everyone feels that, not just queer people.”

All eight episodes of Overcompensating will be available to stream on Prime Video starting May 15.
