Oliver Stark—known for playing the role of Evan “Buck” Buckley in Fox’s popular TV drama series “9-1-1″—is pushing the envelope in Hollywood. Despite playing a character that initially was straight, Stark has successfully pushed for the exploration of Buck’s bisexuality.

Born and raised in London, Stark gradually moved his career to Hollywood. His big break came in 2014 when he joined the cast of AMC’s “Into The Badlands” and, subsequently, in 2018, he landed the role of Buck in “9-1-1”. Over the years, Stark has proven himself as an accomplished actor and a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community.

Stark recently revealed his aspirations for his character in a candid conversation. “Something that’s always touched me emotionally, more than anything in my life, is when people are able to live as their authentic selves,” he shared in an interview with Out. He hopes to continue discussing and expressing Buck’s bisexuality on the show, breaking stereotypes, and bringing forth representation and authenticity that is often missing from television portrayals.

Off-screen, the actor is happily committed to his fiancée, Hannah Gottesman. Yet, he finds an empathetic connection with the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community, rooting for more screen representation. Despite not being part of the community himself, Stark is determined to play his part in promoting inclusivity and diversity.

While embarking on his personal and professional journey, Stark gears up for the next season of “9-1-1”. He’s hopeful and excited about the potential conversations his character can provoke about sexuality, identities, and acceptance. Meanwhile, fans and community members alike are eager to see how Buck’s storyline further evolves.

“I really want to see Buck continue to explore what it is that really speaks to him, and what he’s into,” Stark says.

“He’s obviously going to continue down this path with Tommy for now. I don’t know what that story is going to end up being, but I would really like for Tommy to stay a part of Buck’s life, regardless. He’s obviously opened this door for him, and I think it would be really nice if [Tommy] was able to continue to hold [Buck’s] hand and could help guide him through this process. As somebody who’s a little older and more experienced, to kind of help shepherd Buck into this new phase of understanding who he is.”

For Stark, it’s just another step towards portraying a true depiction of queer experiences on mainstream TV.
