Get ready for a divine rock revival: Adam Lambert and Cynthia Erivo are set to electrify Los Angeles this summer in a groundbreaking production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl, running August 1–3, 2025.

Lambert, the glam-rock icon and Queen frontman, will take on the role of Judas Iscariot, while Erivo, the Emmy, Grammy, and Tony-winning powerhouse, will portray Jesus in a bold, gender-blind casting choice that has already sparked conversation and anticipation across the theater world.
This production marks a return to the show’s rock roots, Variety writes, with direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo and musical direction by Stephen Oremus.

The show is produced in association with Neil Meron and Robert Greenblatt, promising a high-energy, visually stunning, and emotionally powerful rendition of this timeless story.
Jesus Christ Superstar, originally released as a concept album in 1970, quickly became a cultural phenomenon before debuting on Broadway in 1971.

The show tells the story of Jesus Christ’s final days, focusing on the complex relationship between Jesus and his disciple-turned-betrayer, Judas Iscariot.
The rock opera features hit songs like “Superstar,” “Gethsemane,” and “I Don’t Know How to Love Him.”

Lambert’s casting comes fresh off his acclaimed six-month stint as the Emcee in Broadway’s Cabaret. Reflecting on his return to theater, Lambert shared, “Coming back to theater, it just feels really good for the soul.”

Erivo, known for her role as Elphaba in the film adaptation of Wicked, previously participated in the musical, singing the role of Mary Magdalene in the all-female She Is Risen concept albums.
Her portrayal of Jesus in this production is a significant theatrical event featuring star power and a fresh interpretation of the iconic rock opera.
