Reality TV personality David Potts, widely known for his colourful spell as a holiday rep on late-night ITV2 sensation ‘The Ibiza Weekender’, has emerged victorious in the 2024 edition of Celebrity Big Brother. This is a significant win for the gay community as it marks the first time in six years that a celebrity version of the show has been aired. The audience of the reality show hailed Potts’s triumph as a ‘win for the gays.’

Potts, an openly gay celeb, previously moved viewers with his forthright discussions on discovering his sexuality and coming out story while inside the Celebrity Big Brother house. His charm and vivacious persona quickly made him the hot favourite to win the title, and he delivered in style.

The final night, aired on Friday 22nd March, saw the remaining reality housemates – Potts, Louis Walsh, Fern Britton, Nikita Kuzmin, and Colson Smith – gather around a meal as they looked back at the past twelve weeks of the celebrity Big Brother house. Following his victory, an emotional Potts thanked everyone for “letting me be me” and expressed his surprise at developing such deep connections with his fellow housemates. “I genuinely did not think I would be in a house with 12 people who I actually genuinely really, really liked,” he confessed.

Potts’s triumphant moment came as a thrilling climax to an exciting season, narrowly edging past second-place finisher, Strictly dancer Nikita Kuzmin, in a suspense-filled final night. On being announced as the winner by hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best, the reality star was overwhelmed with joy.

Consistent with his flamboyant personality, Potts showcased his signature leggy strut and impressive dance moves as he left the house, joyous and victorious. Reflecting on his time at the House, he humorously remarked: ‘I’ve never really been one of the lads, but when I got really close with Nikita and Colson, I was like, ‘not me being one of the lads.’ I love it, I’m so versatile these days.”

Post his win, fans in the LGBTQ+ responded with an immense outpour of love on social media, appreciating the precious representation Potts brought to the widely-watched TV show.
