Joe Johnson recently went from Olympic ice dancer to happily married man.
The former Team USA skater tied the knot with his longtime partner, Mitchell Allison, at Brooklyn Municipal Building.
The newlyweds shared the exciting news on Instagram, complete with adorable photos from their special day.
The caption read, “I’m so thankful for my husband (!) and many moments shared with friends in this very crazy, hectic city.”
It didn’t take long for the internet to start cheering on the couple’s love story.
Fans and fellow athletes quickly flooded their posts with congratulatory messages.
For Johnson, this milestone marks another proud moment in his life.
He first rose to fame as an ice dancer, competing on the international stage with his skating partner, Karina Manta.
Together, they broke barriers as one of the first openly LGBTQ+ pairs in figure skating.
Their trailblazing story made waves in 2018 when Manta publicly came out as bisexual, followed by Johnson sharing that he’s gay.
Johnson opened up about his journey in an interview, saying he’d known since he was 11 but spent years trying to hide it.

He eventually came out to family and close friends around 2013, noting their support helped him embrace his true self.
His career on the ice was filled with accomplishments, including multiple top-10 finishes at the U.S. Championships.
Though he retired from competitive skating at 30, Johnson’s influence in the sport remains strong.
Off the ice, he’s now stepping into a new chapter—one filled with love, partnership, and a whole lot of joy.
In his Instagram post, Mitchell Allison hinted at more exciting updates to come, teasing, “more on that later.”
Could that mean a honeymoon? Maybe even some future family plans?
Whatever it is, we’re rooting for these two every step of the way.
Here’s to Joe and Mitchell and their beautiful life together!
