Ring the bell, darlings, because the hallways of Hartley High are buzzing with the news that Netflix’s beloved reboot, Heartbreak High, is gearing up for its third and final season. That’s right, our favorite crew from Down Under is getting one last chance to dazzle us with their dramatic flair and unmistakable charm.
Since its sassy debut in 2022, Heartbreak High has stolen our hearts and snagged a spot in Netflix’s top 10 across 53 countries. It’s no surprise, really. The series not only brings the juicy drama but does so while weaving in powerful narratives around sexuality, identity, and other pressing social issues. And let’s not forget—it’s an absolute hit on TikTok, with over two billion views. Talk about going viral!
This Aussie gem has been particularly pivotal for its authentic LGBTQIA+ representation, making it a must-watch in our community. From the adorably chaotic romance between Darren Rivers and Douglas “Ca$h” Pigott to the heartfelt, albeit unseen, letters and school fire drama, Heartbreak High knows how to keep us on our toes.
Season three promises to reunite the talented cast in Sydney for one final hurrah. Que Minh Luu, Netflix Director of Content ANZ, couldn’t hide her excitement, saying, “Renewing Heartbreak High for its final season is a major point of pride for us at Netflix.” She teased that the upcoming season will continue to dish out all the delightful in-jokes and cultural nods we’ve come to adore.

Our favorite power couple, played by James Majoos and Will McDonald, shared some tea with Gay Times about their hopes for the final season. Despite the rocky road their characters have endured, McDonald believes Darren and Ca$h are destined to be a stable couple by the end. He’s also hopeful that Ca$h will explore his identity further and build deeper connections within the school, stepping away from the rough eshay crowd.
The anticipation is sky-high, and the stakes are even higher as we prepare to say goodbye to the series that has done so much to showcase the vibrant lives and challenges of queer youth. Carly Heaton, Fremantle Head of Scripted, summed it up perfectly: “We aimed to create a show where Aussie young people are seen and heard and we are completely overwhelmed by the worldwide reaction to the stories of these characters.”
So, stock up on popcorn and get your fan theories ready. Heartbreak High is about to take us on one last unforgettable ride through the trials and triumphs of adolescence. We’ll definitely be watching—will you?
