Omar Apollo on Racy Queer Post: Unfollow if You’re a Homophobe

Omar Apollo isn’t here for anyone’s homophobia—especially if it means missing out on his electrifying new role opposite Daniel Craig.

Hot off his Grammy nomination, the “Evergreen” crooner has ventured into acting for Luca Guadagnino’s latest project, Queer.

The film, based on William S. Burroughs’ classic novel, sees Craig portraying William Lee, an expat living in Mexico.

When William meets Omar’s character at a local bar, the two share a chemistry so intense it leads to a fully nude scene from Apollo’s side.

Naturally, the shot—where Apollo appears in all his glory—sparked quite the reaction on social media.

While fans like pop star Troye Sivan chimed in with excitement (“What platform?” he asked on Instagram), some followers unfollowed the singer, citing the explicit content and the LGBTQ+ context.

Apollo, never one to mince words, addressed the situation in an Instagram Story. “I’m losing followers for posting this,” he wrote, adding three crying-laughing emojis. “Unfollow me if you’re a homophobe. You’re not my target audience. I will never make myself ‘palatable.’”

That sentiment—a refusal to stay silent or conform—perfectly mirrors Apollo’s entire career.

Known for blurring genre lines in his music and frequently exploring themes of queer love and identity, he’s long been a voice for unfiltered self-expression.

Jumping into a Guadagnino film was a natural fit for him.

“I got the call, and [they] told me about the scene and how explicit it was,” Apollo revealed in a December 2024 interview with Out magazine.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, of course. It’s Daniel Craig. Of course, I’m down.’ It’s not something that’s new to me.”

The scene marks Apollo’s very first film appearance, and he admitted it was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking.

“It was exciting to do something especially when it comes to skin and bodily physical contact,” he said. “It’s nice to trust somebody that shoots those kinds of scenes so intimately and beautifully. I trusted everyone on set.”

Speculation swirled about whether Apollo used a prosthetic in the risqué moment, but the singer neither confirmed nor denied it.

Regardless, it’s not the first time he’s pushed boundaries visually; the cover art for his 2023 EP, Live For Me, features him similarly baring it all.

In many ways, Omar Apollo’s dive into film underscores his ethos—bold, unapologetic, and a little bit cheeky.

He’s not afraid to alienate viewers who can’t accept his authenticity. “This isn’t my life, I AM life,” he concluded in his Instagram Story. “Stupid.”

With Queer now streaming, fans can see exactly why Apollo was so fearless about saying “yes.”

And if a few followers can’t handle it, the singer’s message is clear: he’d rather live his truth than water down his art for anyone else.
