Gay NHRA Driver Travis Shumake Proposes on NYC Ferry

Travis Shumake has been making history—and turning heads—on the NHRA circuit since 2020, proudly taking up the mantle as the first openly gay drag racer on the track.

But when he’s not blazing down the quarter-mile at breathtaking speeds (with a rainbow parachute billowing out behind him, of course!), Shumake is on a mission to show the motorsports world that LGBTQ+ drivers have more than enough horsepower to compete at the highest levels.

The Ultimate New York Proposal

This holiday season, however, Travis swapped roaring engines for ferry engines!

While his and partner Daryl’s families were together in New York City to celebrate Christmas, the couple decided to take in the city’s iconic skyline from the Staten Island Ferry.

Cue the enchanting snowfall. Cue the Manhattan lights. Cue Shumake slipping away to the boat’s upper deck and dropping to one knee in front of Lady Liberty herself.

Daryl said “yes!” in a moment that truly sparkled with holiday magic.

The two savored the hush-hush thrill—returning to their families below deck, hearts pounding, with only the snow on Travis’s pant leg to give them away.

Hallmark-Worthy Reveal

Eventually, the newly engaged duo spilled the beans over a celebratory dinner at Delmonico’s Steakhouse in Lower Manhattan.

Surrounded by the festive spirit (and presumably a toast or two), they announced their next big chapter—a chapter that we know will be filled with love, excitement, and plenty of racing stripes.

In an Instagram post recapping the romantic moment, Shumake quipped, “It doesn’t get more New York than that. Not sure how or why he’s kept me around for seven years. Figured I should put a ring on it before he wises up.”

And trust us, the dashing Daryl isn’t going anywhere—any partner who bravely cheers trackside while nitro-fueled cars roar by is in it for the long haul!

Back to the Fast Lane

With the question popped and the ring firmly on Daryl’s finger, Travis is ready to swap the ferry deck for the dragstrip once again.

He’s prepping for the 2025 NHRA Arizona Nationals on March 21, where he’ll hope to zoom across the finish line in record time—and no doubt glance over to the sidelines to see his new fiancé cheering him on.

Instagram: @travieshu

But let’s not forget: Shumake has been more than just a competitor.

He’s a spokesperson for an inclusive motorsport future—sponsored by Grindr and decked out in bold rainbow gear that screams pride.

Now that he’s forging a life partnership at the same time, the racing arena (and the wedding aisle!) will be that much more fabulous.

Celebrating Love & Progress

Travis Shumake’s journey proves that the world of drag racing—a domain typically dominated by straight male drivers—has plenty of room for every kind of champion.

The fact that he’s crossing big milestones in his personal life while breaking barriers on the track is a testament to his unstoppable spirit.

So rev your engines, sweethearts, and raise a toast to Travis and Daryl’s engagement.

May their future be filled with checkered flags, endless love, and the kind of joy that can only be described as full throttle.

Let’s hear it for a true racing power couple—one that’s speeding toward “I do!” as fast as their Funny Car can take them!

Congratulations, Travis & Daryl!

We can’t wait to see how this fast and fabulous love story unfolds—both on the track and at the altar.

Russell Tovey Is Starry-Eyed for Tom Blyth in New Gay Romance

Russell Tovey can’t stop raving about his newest co-star—and trust us, darlings, you’ll be swooning, too!

In the upcoming indie drama Plainclothes, Tovey teams up with The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbird & Snake breakout Tom Blyth for a 1990s-set undercover romance that’s already sending pulses racing in the LGBTQ+ film world.

“When I first met Tom on Zoom, I thought, ‘This guy’s the real deal,’” Tovey recently dished in an interview with Variety, adding that Blyth is “full of stardust” and “an absolute passion” when it comes to filmmaking.

Apparently, that star power had the whole set under a charming spell—but Tovey wasn’t about to let his co-star soak up all the love: “I turned the charm up and said, ‘You’re going to love me, too!’”

Yes, please.

Instagram: @tomblyth

The film sets its clandestine scene in 1990s Syracuse, New York, where Tom Blyth plays Lucas, an undercover cop assigned to target gay men—until he meets Andrew (Tovey), the man he’s supposed to entrap.

One stolen look, and suddenly sting operations turn into something far more dangerous: falling in love.

This undercover-to-lover plot has all the makings of a swoon-worthy slow burn, so break out the popcorn, folks.

Tovey—no stranger to complex queer roles—admits he’s drawn to the tensions and vulnerabilities lurking in these stories.

Looking. Instagram: @hbo @russeltovey

Think of his work as closeted Joe Pitt in Angels in America, or even his layered performance in the HBO series Looking.

For him, it’s all about grappling with the emotional stakes and the heartache of characters who wrestle with coming out, societal pressure, or even “sting ops” in public bathrooms.

Yep, that’s real drama.

But there’s heart and hope here, too.

Tovey points out that Plainclothes spans “intergenerational queer connections,” bridging communities and reminding us how important it is to share our stories across time.

The film will make its big splash at Sundance, which means it’s the perfect time to keep an eye on Tom Blyth—he’s stepping firmly into the spotlight, and we absolutely love a fresh new face shaking up the screen.

So mark your calendars, babes.

With a stirring romance, undercover intrigue, and two Brits turning up the smolder, Plainclothes might just be this season’s must-see queer cinematic moment.

Will the sting lead to heartbreak, happily-ever-after, or both? Only time—and maybe a festival screening or two—will tell.

One thing’s certain: Russell Tovey’s got us all excited about this dynamic duo, so come watch them charm us right out of our… well, plain clothes.

Alan Cumming & Hubby Bid Farewell to Trump’s America

Scottish superstar and Broadway legend Alan Cumming is packing his bags—and his fabulous flair—and heading back to his beloved homeland.

After enchanting the U.S. for over two decades with his scene-stealing roles on stage and screen (Cabaret on Broadway, The Good Wife, and now the U.S. version of The Traitors), Alan says the call of the Highlands is simply too strong to ignore.

And honestly, who among us can resist the lure of moody castles and lush greenery?

Instagram: @AlanCummingReally

In a recent chat with Kaye Adams on her How to be 60 podcast, Alan spilled the tea on why Scotland is tugging at his heart.

While he still adores New York (and truly, who doesn’t love a Manhattan skyline?), he’s realized that his personal values fit better back across the pond.

According to Alan, part of the draw is the UK’s emphasis on kindness, compassion, and a good old-fashioned safety net.

He’s made it clear the political climate in America just doesn’t jive with him anymore, and he’d rather spend his golden years surrounded by friends and neighbors who share his worldview.

Instagram: @AlanCummingReally

But don’t worry—you won’t be missing him entirely. Alan’s sworn to keep a foot on both continents, especially since hubby Grant Shaffer is American.

The pair, who wed in 2012, are planning to split their time between the Big Apple and their cozy nook in the Scottish Highlands.

Although, judging from the sweet way Alan talks about breezy moors and bonnie landscapes, we suspect he might be leaning into that Highland fling a bit more than the Yankee hustle.

Of course, our mischievous Scotsman isn’t the only celeb who’s contemplating a permanent exit from the land of liberty.

Talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi reportedly high-tailed it to rural England.

And let’s not forget that rumor mill swirling around America Ferrera—though she’s put it plainly that certain political realities have her yearning for different shores as well.

If you think Alan is about to take a well-deserved nap in a cozy castle… well, think again.

He was named the artistic director of Pitlochry Festival Theatre last year, so we’re certain a hearty helping of drama—and maybe the occasional show tune—awaits him in the Highlands.

Instagram: @AlanCummingReally

He’s even hinted that he’ll keep filming in the UK, so keep your eyes peeled for new roles that let him roll those R’s in all his Scottish glory.

For now, we’re simply raising a glass of single malt to toast Alan Cumming’s future.

Whether he’s hosting reality TV in Manhattan or directing theatre in Pitlochry, he’s sure to keep us entertained with that signature wit, daring style, and unstoppable charm.

Slàinte, Alan—here’s hoping the Highlands treat you like the national treasure you are!

Rugby Pro Campbell Johnstone Ties the Knot with Ben Thomson

Former professional rugby star Campbell Johnstone is off the market and into happily-ever-after.

The 45-year-old athlete—who made history as the first openly gay All Blacks player—exchanged vows with his partner Ben Thomson in a lavish-yet-intimate ceremony, as revealed in a recent Woman’s Day spread.

Instagram: @CampbellJohnstone.nz

A Helicopter Entrance for the Ages

The couple kicked off their wedding day in high style, literally, by landing at The Flaxmill in Oxford, New Zealand in a helicopter flown by none other than Johnstone’s rugby peer Richie McCaw.

“Richie did this really steep loop around the property, and I lost my stomach a bit,” Thomson told Woman’s Day.

“Then he landed, and we got out. Our parents congratulated us, people swarmed to take photos, then the wedding kind of kicked off from there.”

Vows at the Top of the World

While most couples opt for a traditional aisle walk in front of friends and family, Johnstone and Thomson took a different approach.

Before the main celebration, they shared their vows privately in a remote mountain-top ceremony at Castle Hill Station.

Instagram: @CampbellJohnstone.nz

“We had a day with just the two of us,” Thomson explained. “It was literally just us, the two photographers, and the videographer on that hill… we didn’t even have a celebrant.”

Johnstone added, “We also thought it should be a moment just for us. That was really special because we just got to enjoy the day together.”

Surprise Reveal for Guests

The newlyweds kept their private vows under wraps until they returned to share a wedding celebration with family and friends.

As the guests watched a video reel of the mountaintop nuptials, many believed it was happening live.

Instagram: @CampbellJohnstone.nz

“Nobody knew what was going on,” Johnstone revealed. “Even the groomspeople and our families didn’t know… I think some people thought it was live.”

A Spread of Memories

In the Woman’s Day feature, Johnstone and Thomson delighted readers with photographs capturing their unique celebration.

From a champagne tower to a dessert-laden table, the couple’s flair for fun and detail shone through.

One sweet snapshot even showed the grooms wearing matching tuxedos and a pendant bearing their initials.

In a playful twist, guests were invited to vote on the couple’s new last name, ultimately sticking with “Johnstone.”

Love and Support Pour In

Since going public with the news, Johnstone’s Instagram feed has been brimming with congratulatory messages.

“Absolutely stunning! Wishing you all the best,” wrote one fan, while another chimed in, “LOVE THIS FOR YOU BOTH. Congratulations!”

A Groundbreaking Romance

Johnstone’s wedding marks another milestone in his trailblazing journey.

Just two years ago, he came out as gay, becoming the first All Blacks player to do so.

Instagram: @CampbellJohnstone.nz

Reflecting on his decision, he told Seven Sharp TV: “If I can be the first All Black that comes out as gay and take away the pressure and the stigma… it can actually help other people.”

Now, having tied the knot with Thomson in an unforgettable ceremony, Johnstone has added a new chapter to his story—one that celebrates love, authenticity, and the freedom to chart your own path.

Congratulations to Campbell Johnstone and Ben Thomson on their marriage!

Leo Woodall Heads ‘Prime Target’ as a Queer Math Genius

Leo Woodall, who famously turned heads in The White Lotus with one of the show’s most shocking LGBTQ+ plot twists, is stepping into a very different kind of role for Apple TV+’s Prime Target.

Launching on January 22, this new eight-part thriller promises high-stakes drama, boundary-pushing themes, and a dash of cutting-edge mathematics.

Instagram: @apple

Meet Edward Brook: The “World’s Greatest Mind”

In Prime Target, Woodall stars as Edward Brook, a brilliant Cambridge postgraduate whose groundbreaking theory about prime numbers could potentially unlock every computer system in the world.

While his professor (played by Daddy IssuesDavid Morrissey) cautions him to abandon his research, Edward refuses to stop digging.

Soon, dark forces start tracking his every move.

An Unexpected Ally

Joining Woodall is Trinkets actor Quintessa Swindell (who identifies as non-binary) in the role of Taylah Sanders—a national security agent quietly watching over Edward.

As threats close in from all sides, Taylah becomes Edward’s reluctant lifeline, helping him uncover the secrets hidden within his own discoveries.

Queer Representation

Prime Target isn’t just another espionage story; it also weaves in a fresh angle on LGBTQ+ representation.

Edward is openly queer, sharing a relationship with Adam, portrayed by Lost Boys & Fairies star Fra Fee.

Instagram: @fra_fee

While some thrillers reduce queer subplots to background detail, the creative team—led by Sherlock and Doctor Who writer Steve Thompson—has emphasized that Edward’s sexuality is both vital and refreshingly organic to the storyline.

Swindell recently shared that they appreciate how Woodall’s character “doesn’t need to be labeled,” and that his queerness is simply part of who he is.

It’s a subtle approach that avoids stereotypical tropes, reflecting a broader shift in how LGBTQ+ stories are told on screen.

Beyond The White Lotus

For fans who know Woodall only as the troublemaking Essex lad from The White Lotus, Prime Target might be a surprise.

The actor admitted he’s “never taken on a role quite like Ed,” describing the character as more reclusive, introverted, and rule-breaking than his previous turns.

After revealing in The White Lotus that his character was sleeping with a presumed family member, Woodall seemed game for another boundary-pushing storyline—this time swapping scandalous Italian resorts for the hidden corridors of clandestine government secrets.

Mark Your Calendars

Prime Target debuts on Apple TV+ starting January 22, offering a thrilling blend of code-cracking, cat-and-mouse intrigue, and cutting-edge representation.

If the explosive trailer and the presence of a “transgressive” lead are any indication, fans of high-stakes dramas—and queer storytelling—will want to tune in.

Will Edward Brook harness the power of prime numbers before he’s taken down by forces lurking in the shadows?

And how will his relationships factor into the ultimate outcome?

Only time—and Prime Target—will tell. Don’t miss it.
