Announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Tovey, alongside Gugu Mbatha-Raw, will star in “The War Between the Land and the Sea,” a thrilling new ‘Doctor Who’ spinoff, Variety reports.

The series, penned by showrunner Russell T Davies, reunites Tovey with his “Doctor Who” roots but in an entirely new role.

Tovey first appeared in the “Doctor Who” universe in the 2007 Christmas special “Voyage of the Damned.”

He played Alonso Frame, a midshipman aboard the starship Titanic.

The episode, a fan favorite, saw the Doctor, played by David Tennant, saving the ship from disaster.

Tovey’s character later made a brief appearance in “The End of Time,” where he encountered Captain Jack Harkness at a space bar, hinting at more adventures in the “Doctor Who” lore.

This role established Tovey as a memorable figure in the Whoniverse.

Tovey, who otherwise is best known for his roles in “Being Human” and “Looking,” has been a beloved figure in the LGBTQ+ community for years.

His candor about his own experiences as a gay man in the entertainment industry has endeared him to many.

This new role in the “Doctor Who” universe is not just another feather in his cap but a significant step forward in the representation of queer characters in mainstream media.
