Fans of American Idol alum, David Archuleta, were delighted when the singer candidly opened up about his love life during an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on the Reddit thread, Popheads.

However, in June 2021 he made headlines in a different light, bravely sharing that he was part of the LGBTQ+ community by coming out as gay. In response to a fan’s cheeky inquiry about his type, Archuleta seemed to have a sweet spot for Latinos, likely due to his Latin heritage and upbringing in Miami. He confessed that he “has a thing for Latinos” but quickly added that he’s dated people of other ethnicities too.

“ok…. here’s the tea yo. I think it has to do with the fact that I was born and grew up first in Miami, but my cousins were all dark skinned, my mom and aunts were the standard of beauty for me and they all were latinas with tan olive skin. So I think it just stayed with me. So yeah I’ve tended to have a thing for Latinos. Although yeah I’m open to others and have dated all kinds of ethnicities,” David wrote.

But it’s not merely physical attributes that attract the singer. He stated that he appreciates someone with a bit more edge to balance out his boy-next-door persona. He values grounded individuals who help him to relax and let his guard down. And as someone who admittedly lives in his head, he finds a connection with those who are adventurous and can show him a world beyond his thoughts.

“Being more a boy next door type myself naturally I think someone who has a little more edge to them and is not as uptight has been a good balance for me. Someone more grounded who balances out my being in my head all the time and overthinking and guarded who helps me feel I can chill and let my guard down. But also someone I can show an exploratory world to because I like to be pretty adventurous,” David explained.
